5 ways you can give back to your teachers

Guidance, inspiration, learning and support – we receive all of this unconditionally from our teachers. They toil to bring out the best of themselves so that we can drain the knowledge out of them. To add to that, they advise us, help us and correct us when needed. We get so much from our teachers, don’t you think we should be giving back to them?

Here are 5 ways you can give back to your teachers –

  1. Write them a letter of appreciation
They write numerous letters of recommendation for us – would it be difficult to write one letter of appreciation for our teachers? Well, no! If you want to thank your favorite teachers, a great way to do that would be to write them a letter of appreciation, where you express your gratitude to them for all that they have given you! It will not just make them happy but also motivate them to help other kids like you.
  1. Research about topics before a class.
You don’t have to do big and elaborate gestures to thank your teachers. You can show your gratitude via some indirect measures as well. One of them being – researching about topics before a class. Teachers put a lot of effort into the lessons they prepare for us. Many times, we don’t pay attention in their classes because it seems ‘cool’. But you know what’s actually cool? Showing respect, and prior research. When your teachers find out that you have prepared for the class beforehand, they will definitely feel immense joy and gratitude towards you.
  1. Work hard on your career.
One of the things that gives a teacher immense happiness is watching their students grow and succeed. To achieve that, you must work hard on your career. Work towards your goal, make mistakes, learn from them and don’t give up. Bottom line, work hard! Giving your teachers the satisfaction that their students have succeeded and excelled in their career is one of the greatest ways you can give back to them.
  1. Stay in touch.
We often lose contact with our teachers once we graduate or pass out from our schools or colleges. We move on in our lives to achieve greater things. But teachers are our roots, and you can’t move away from your roots. We often forget about our teachers since we have a lot going on in our lives. However, make time. Stay in touch with the teachers that have impacted your lives. Keep them updated, ask for their advice. The knowledge that they impacted your life enough that you stayed in touch is a great way to give back to them.
  1. Share the stories of their impact
We don’t hear stories about teachers often. People easily share about ‘bad’ teachers, but not about the good ones, and not about the great ones. The greatest way you can give back to your teachers who had a significant impact in your life is by amplifying their voices and sharing their stories. Tell people how your favorite teacher helped you go for your goals. Tell people how they didn’t let you give up after one failure. Tell stories of teachers who told you that you are more than grades. Let’s share these stories!

Teaching is one of the greatest professions of mankind. Yet it is also one of the most underappreciated ones. Your teachers give so much to you. Make sure you give at least a portion of it back.
